Even though the next academic year is more than seven months away, a fresh cohort of resident assistants is already in place at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, preparing for fall semester’s new students who will reside on-campus.

Resident assistants are an essential part of the residence hall experience, building community on their floors through the Nebraska Residential Experience.

“As upper division students, RAs are a great resource and serve as mentors in the halls, especially to Huskers who are just starting at UNL,” said Carrie Fitzwater, assistant director of Residence Life.

Fitzwater coordinates the recruitment of the new resident assistants. “Each fall, new RAs are eager to make a difference, bringing a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the department,” she adds.

The new hires recently completed a two-week leadership class and will return for training in August ahead of the fall semester.
