A closer look at a record-setting commencement

Three-panel graphic that reads "A record 3,885 degrees awarded to 3,762 graduates from 61 counties" with the view from an airplane seat; "203 Honors Program graduates" with a graduate celebrating; and "739 first-generation students" with a mortarboard and rolled-up diploma.

This commencement was one for the record books. With 3,761 graduates earning 3,884 degrees, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's May 2026 class was the largest in school history — and by considerable margins. The previous records — set in May 2023 — were 3,664 grads earning 3,748 degrees.

The graduates hailed from 61 countries; 46 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; and 230-plus Nebraska communities. They joined more than 200,000 living Husker alumni worldwide.
