Recent achievements for the campus community were earned by Julie Jacobs, Vicki Schroeder, Glenn Nierman, Clyde Ogg, Guanhua Hoa, Jeff Maul, Tim Darby, Oleh Khalimonchuk and Ricardo Jerome.

Honors

  • Julie Jacobs and Vicki Schroeder were selected as the North Central Region recipients of the American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators 2020 Professional Recognition Award for their work on the Chemigation Education Program. Read the full article here.

  • Glenn Nierman, associate director, professor of music education and Glenn Korff Chair of Music, delivered a presidential session during the 34th World Conference of the International Society of Music Education in August. Only 10 presidential sessions were selected from among 1,500 submissions worldwide. Learn more here.

  • Clyde Ogg, extension educator in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, received a Life Membership in the American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators in recognition of dedicating his professional career to pesticide safety education. Learn more here.

  • Guanhua Hao, a graduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, earned a Neville B. Smith Award for second place in the Advanced Light Source Student Poster Competition at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

  • Ash E. Smith,Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Arts, is part of the Exhibit Columbus Symposium New Middles, which kicked off Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 27. The symposium gathers national and international thought leaders in architecture, art, design and landscape architecture, together with Columbus, Indiana, stakeholders to explore the question: What is the Future of The Middle City? Appointments

  • The Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management Program has announced the members of its 2020-21 advisory board. Jeff Maul, executive director of the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, will serve as chair of the advisory board. Tim Darby, general manager of the Magnolia Hotel in Omaha, is chair-elect.   • Oleh Khalimonchuk, Susan Rosowski Professor of biochemistry, has been named interim director of the university’s Nebraska Redox Biology Center. Learn more here.

  • Ricardo Jacome, a graduate student in mechanical and materials engineering and a researcher at the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, has been chosen as a doctoral research fellow by the Society of Automotive Engineers for 2020-2021. He is one of five doctoral students in the United States chosen for the honor, which provides $15,000 for the academic year. Read more here.
