Nebraska music faculty John Bailey and Christopher Marks will perform a recital of flute and keyboard compositions at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 in Kimball Recital Hall.
The program will feature “Miracles” by American composer Daniel Pinkham. The composition is based on five miracles performed by Jesus in the New Testament. The 17-minute work was first performed in 1978 by the Boston Symphony’s Doriot Anthony Dwyer and Yuko Hayashi.
Other works in the program include an Italian baroque sonata by Leonardo Vinci; a suite by Philippe Gaubert, a Paris Conservatory flute player, conductor and composer; a solo flute composition by Sigfrid Karg-Elert; and “Ballade,” which was written by Frank Martin for the 1939 Geneva international flute competition.
Bailey is a professor of music with a focus on the flute. Marks is a professor of music with a focus on piano and organ. He is also associate dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
The performance is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live online.
