First Friday events at UNL will feature new exhibitions and free activities March 6.
The Great Plains Art Museum will host the “Picture to Win Contest” from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will include taking photos in a vintage photo booth with props, enjoying candies and treats from decades past and seeing two exhibitions: “Homefront and Battlefield: Quilts and Context in the Civil War” and “Select Photographs by Fred E. Miller: Photographer of the Crows.”
The International Quilt Study Center and Museum will host UNL students Emma DeVries and Michael Johnson who will launch three interactive discovery guides designed to help patrons interact with and better appreciate the rich, historical value of the IQSCM’s collection from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided as guests check out the new exhibitions and guides.
The Nebraska State Museum at Morrill Hall will host the State Museum’s exhibition Children of St. Augustine Indian Mission, Winnebago, Nebraska, portraits by Don Doll part of the First Peoples of the Plains: Traditions Shaped by Land and Sky, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery will host a closing reception for “Optical Meshing: Apparel Design by Kim Hahn,” from 5 to 7 p.m., with a gallery talk at 5:30 p.m.
The Sheldon Museum of Art will host the First Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will feature live jazz by musicians from UNL’s Glenn Korff School of Music.
