Campus Recreation is offering a family-friendly cooking series designed to help children learn the basics about nutrition and food groups.
The Kids + Parent Cooking classes are July 11 and 25, offering lessons alongside a homemade dinner. All prep work and clean-up is completed by instructors in Campus Rec’s Wellness Kitchen.
The hourlong classes, which are open to the public, are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and geared for children ages 3 and up. Cost is $15 for each parent/child pair and $5 for each additional child. Class size is limited and instructors accommodate for special dietary needs.
The cooking series is offered in collaboration with the Wellness Kitchen, which is located inside the Recreation and Wellness Center on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus. For more information about the series or other activities in the kitchen, contact Amanda Robine at arobine3@unl.edu.
Menus scheduled for the Kids + Parent Cooking classes are:

July 25 — Classic Tomato Sauce with Whole Grain Pasta and Green Salad with Herb Vinaigrette. Participants will create a versatile tomato sauce that can be expanded to include more vegetables, cheese or ground meat.
