CBA construction to begin during spring break

Spring break will herald the start of construction on UNL’s new $84 million College of Business Administration Building at 14th and Vine streets.

The two-year construction schedule opens the week of March 23. By April 1, the project will shift nearby sidewalk traffic, a bus stop and parking.

A construction fence will surround the site, which is immediately north of the Kauffman Academic Residential Center.

Sidewalks within the construction zone will be closed. Walking traffic will be directed to the east (between Henzlik Hall and the University Health Center), and to the west side of 14th Street (between the Military and Naval Sciences Building and Morrill Hall). The north side of the Kauffman Academic Residential Center will also be accessible by sidewalk.

The intercampus bus stop near the southeast corner of 14th and Vine streets will move further east, near a parking lot north of the University Health Center. The temporary bus stop will be marked with a sign.

To support construction of the CBA building, the reserved (F2) parking lot on the southeast corner of 14th and Vine streets will close April 1. Area F2 permit holders are being directed to two alternative reserved parking lots — in the Area F3 lot on the interior of the Memorial Mall (east of Memorial Stadium) or the Area F5 lot north of the University Health Center.

Affected permit holders must contact Parking and Transit Services to switch permits accordingly. For more information on the parking shift, call 402-472-1800.

Due to ongoing construction on the project, the campus community and public should also expect additional noise, dirt, truck traffic and obstructions in the immediate work area.

The 240,000-square-foot CBA building is the largest academic building project in recent history at UNL. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York and Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture of Omaha, the building is funded exclusively from private donations from CBA alumni and business partners.
