Kelly Reichardt, writer and director of “Certain Women,” will attend a Nov. 4, opening-night screening of the film at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Also continuing to show is “American Honey.”
“Certain Women” features Michelle Williams, Kristen Steward and Laura Dern in a film about three women striving to forge their own paths on the open plains of the American northwest. The stories of a wife and mother, lawyer, and law student intersect as the three work to define themselves.
The film shows Reichardt’s gift for using uncommon empathy and skill to tell stories of ordinary people. Following the 7:30 p.m. screening, Reichardt will take part in a question and answer session with the audience.
“Certain Women” shows through Nov. 17 at the Ross. “American Honey” is at the Ross through Nov. 17.
“American Honey” presents a refreshingly unconventional take on the coming-of-age drama whose narrative risks add up to a rewarding experience. The film, starring Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf, is about a teenage girl who runs away from home with a traveling sales crew. Lane’s character, Star, gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard partying, law-bending and young love.
