Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett has postponed his Dec. 21 investiture ceremony until the spring semester.

The change, announced in a Dec. 12 email to faculty and staff, will allow for university administrators to attend a celebration of life for Howard L. Hawks, a regent emeritus, visionary leader and supporter of the University of Nebraska system.

“I join with many of you in mourning Howard's death. He was a pillar of the community and state of Nebraska, and his passing leaves a void for all who loved and respected him,” Bennett said. “My heart goes out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. By postponing the investiture to the spring, it will allow members of our university and statewide community to pay respect to Howard's legacy.”

Hawks’ celebration of life is 11 a.m. Dec. 21 at Omaha’s Baxter Arena. Read more about Hawks’ impact on the university and Nebraska.

Updated details on Bennett’s investiture will be announced.
