Cheney retirement reception is Jan. 5

Veva Cheney

A retirement reception for Veva Cheney, director of Services for Students with Disabilities is 3:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Remarks are scheduled for 4 p.m.

Cheney has served as director for 15 years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to coming to the university, Cheney served as a counselor at Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation working directly with Nebraska students.

“During my time at the university, I’ve greatly enjoyed the people and the students,” Cheney said. “I have some great colleagues at UNL that are now friends that I hope to stay connected to. There are a few students that have made an incredible impact on my life that I will never forget. I carry these memories close to my heart.”

In retirement, Cheney plans to enjoy her free time and “do nothing right at first.” In the long-term, she plans to spend more time with her grandchildren and hopes to travel with her husband, Curt.

The reception to honor Cheney is free and open to the public.
