A combined choir from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music will be featured in the 60th Presidential Inauguration at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20.
The ensemble of some 120 Husker students will perform with the United States Marine Band. The two are projected to open the official inauguration program, which begins at approximately 11 a.m. CST.
The choir was invited to participate in the ceremony by Sen. Deb Fischer, a member of the nonpartisan Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
“I am very excited for our students, and I know they are very excited as well,” said Peter Eklund, professor of music and director of choral activities. “It is a great opportunity to feature the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to the world.
“I am appreciative of our entire NU system administration for their support and encouragement, and for finding benefactors to defray the travel cost for our students.”
The combined choir also plans to perform at other locations in Washington, D.C., including the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the largest Roman Catholic church in North America.
The inauguration will be broadcast by all major television networks, cable news channels and streaming platforms.
