Daniel Craig stars in "Queer," opening Jan. 10 at the Ross.

A restored musical classic and a Golden Globe- and Screen Actors Guild-nominated film open Jan. 10 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Jacques Demy’s dazzling technicolor musical "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" returns to theaters in a new 4K restoration for the film’s 60th anniversary. An angelically beautiful Catherine Deneuve was launched to stardom by this musical heart-tugger. She plays an umbrella-shop owner’s delicate daughter, glowing with first love for a handsome garage mechanic, played by Nino Castelnuovo. When the boy is shipped off to fight in Algeria, the two lovers must grow up quickly. Exquisitely designed in a kaleidoscope of colors, and told entirely through the lilting songs of the great composer Michel Legrand, "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" is one of the most revered and unorthodox movie musicals of all time.

The film, which is not rated, is showing through Jan. 16.

It's 1950 in Mexico City, where William Lee (Daniel Craig), an American expat, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody. Craig has received numerous nominations for his performance, including from the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild.

"Queer," which is rated R, is showing through Jan. 16.
