Criminal justice career lecture series opens Feb. 10

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is bringing guest speakers to campus for the Spring 2020 State of the Agency Lecture Series.

The series begins Feb. 10. Each speaker will be from a different agency to discuss their position and all it entails. The events are free and open to the public.

The schedule of speakers is:

  • Col. John Buldoc, 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in Nebraska Union’s Swanson Auditorium. Buldoc is superintendent of Nebraska Highway Patrol. Buldoc, a law enforcement officer since 1986, has held several leadership positions throughout his career, including service in three different states. Col. Bolduc holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from National University in San Diego, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bemidji State University in Minnesota. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

  • Networking with federal agents, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in Nebraska Hall, Room 511. Students learn more about prospective employment within the agencies at this federal career panel. Free pizza will be provided.

  • Corey Steel, 12:30 p.m. March 9 in the Nebraska Union, Swanson Auditorium. Steel is the Nebraska State court administrator. Steel was appointed State Court Administrator on May 2, 2014, to oversee the administrative operations of the statewide court and probation system. The court administrator plans for statewide judicial branch needs, develops and promotes statewide administrative practices and procedures, oversees the operation of trial court programs and strategic initiatives and serves as a liaison with other branches of government.

  • Scott Frakes, 12:30 p.m. April 13 in Nebraska Union, Swanson Auditorium. Frakes is the director of the Nebraska Department of Corrections. Frakes serves as a member of Governor Ricketts’ cabinet and directs an agency of 2,300 staff members and more than 5,000 inmates throughout 10 state prisons. Tasked with transforming Nebraska Corrections, Frakes has made substantive changes to the way NDCS business is conducted.
