Due to safety concerns, the 40th and Holdrege streets exit from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus will close Aug. 10.
The vehicle entrance at the intersection will remain open. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained through the shutdown. The intersection is located immediately south of the College of Dentistry.
The closure will allow university and city employees to complete a study and consider redesign options for the intersection. The project is spurred by community, police and campus safety concerns related to vehicles turning left onto Holdrege Street from the right-turn only lane. Other concerns include pedestrians trying to cross Holdrege Street at 40th Street.
During the shutdown, vehicles on the southern edge of East Campus can access Holdrege Street at the traffic light-controlled intersection on Dairy Store Drive (immediately south of the Dairy Store).
