The College of Engineering will offer a daylong industry tour in Omaha on Oct. 10. The event, held in collaboration with the Greater Omaha Area Chamber of Commerce, allows first-year students to explore engineering careers and opportunities.
Between 500 and 600 engineering students from the Lincoln and Omaha campuses will arrive at TD Ameritrade Park at 8:30 a.m. The students will be divided into 30 smaller groups to tour the following companies or areas: Union Pacific Harriman Dispatch Center, ConAgra Campus, NRG, Omaha World-Herald Freedom Center, Metropolitan Utilities District Riverfront Plant, Gallup IT, Holland Center, Leahy Mall, Capitol District Project and ConAgra Foods.
The students will also attend a company expo and meet young engineers. At 1:30 p.m., they will begin mini track tours at the Metropolitan Utilities District’s Florence Water Treatment Plant, North Omaha Power Plant, University of Nebraska Medical Center’s cancer center project, UNMC Biomedical, CLAAS, Conductix, Valmont Industries, Lozier, Henry Doorly Zoo, UNO arena project, Acieta or Cabela’s Data Center.
This is the third tour offered by the college. Other trips were to Grand Island and Columbus.
