Though the pandemic has restricted where we can go and what we can do this fall, there are still plenty of safe ways to explore campus and stay connected with others.
Here are a few socially distanced, outdoor or virtual activities to take part in this October.
All in-person activities follow University of Nebraska–Lincoln COVID-19 protocols, requiring facial coverings and six-feet of space between each person.
Students, faculty and staff can register to vote from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 and 15 at the Nebraska Union Plaza. The event is being hosted by ASUN and the Huskers Vote Coalition.
At the event, Huskers can check their voter registration status, sign up for early voting and learn their polling place for the Nov. 3 election. Student representatives from both HVC and ASUN will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.
Get a free flu shot
Students can get a free flu shot at Campus Rec or the East Campus Union through October. Staying protected from the flu is especially important this fall due to the spread of COVID-19.
Those looking to get a flu shot should sign up for a time slot ahead of time and bring their NCard and a completed 2020-21 Influenza Vaccination Form to their appointment.

The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center’s Kawasaki Reading Room is hosting "Take Home Tea Time Fridays" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Friday through Nov. 20. Students can stop by for a tea goodie bag and snap a photo of themselves and their tea with the hashtag #TeaTimeFridayKRR to have their name entered in a monthly drawing.
Make Thai food with the Wellness Kitchen
Nebraska’s Wellness Kitchen, located in the Recreation and Wellness Center on East Campus, regularly hosts cooking demonstrations for students. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21, the kitchen is hosting "Taste of Thai," where participants can create Thai recipes such as rice paper rolls with peanut sauce, coconut shrimp with mango sauce, green thai chicken with coconut curry, mango sticky rice and Thai-style tapioca pudding. Registration is required by Oct. 18.
Attend a virtual discussion on Black female activists
Nebraska’s Women and Gender Studies program will host a virtual discussion on activism and leadership by women of color, “Say Their Names: Centering Black Women Activists in the Struggle for Justice,” from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Oct. 12 via Zoom.
The discussion will be led by Jeannette Jones, associate professor of history and ethnic studies, and Zakiya Luna, assistant professor of sociology at the University of California Santa Barbara. Topics will include the Black Lives Matter, #SayHerName and reproductive justice movements.
