Faculty 101 podcast marches with the 'Pride of All Nebraska'

Listen: Faculty 101 with Tony Falcone and Doug Bush

University Communication is putting a new twist on how Nebraska Today delivers stories about our state’s flagship university and the students, faculty and staff who flourish here.

We’ve thrown our microphones into the ring with Faculty 101, a podcast series that delivers regular insights — some serious, others silly — into the work and lives of Husker faculty.

This week’s podcast checks in with Tony Falcone and Doug Bush, who together are busy preparing the Cornhusker Marching Band for the first game and season of the Scott Frost era.

Faculty 101 host Mary Jane Bruce talks with Falcone and Bush about the sacrifices that the band’s 300 students must make to hit every note and synchronize every step: the physical conditioning, the schedule juggling, and 7 a.m. rehearsals in all kinds of weather.

The faculty members later explain how the storied tradition of Nebraska football, the wide-ranging fan base and the sheer scale of Memorial Stadium shape their musical selections and marching formations. They also describe what drives so many students to become part of the band and the lifelong bonds that often emerge from the experience.

Faculty 101 episodes will be featured here on Nebraska Today, but you can also subscribe via iTunes and Stitcher. Additional podcast delivery systems will be announced as they come online.
