Faculty input sought as search begins for research vice chancellor

Faculty are invited to offer ideas and advice about the search for the next vice chancellor for research and economic development at a Sept. 11 open forum.

The forum, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the Nebraska Union, will be with national executive search firm Korn Ferry. It will provide a chance to learn more and to express thoughts, wishes and concerns about the search.

Chancellor Ronnie Green and Executive Vice Chancellor Donde Plowman will officially launch the search for the next vice chancellor for research and economic development later this month. A search committee will be led by co-chairs Deb Hamernik, associate dean of agricultural research, associate director of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station and interim associate vice chancellor for research; and David Sellmyer, professor of physics and astronomy and director of the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience.

Committee members include Shireen Adenwalla, professor of physics and astronomy; Jim Alfano, professor of plant pathology; John Anderson, professor of economics and director of the Central Plains Research Data Center; Shannon Bartelt-Hunt, associate professor of civil engineering; Matt Jockers, associate professor of English and associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences; Mark Riley, professor of biological systems engineering and associate dean in the College of Engineering; Thomas Sattler, partner at Sattler & Bogen LLP and member of the NUTech Ventures board; Susan Sheridan, professor of educational psychology and director of the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools; Mauricio Suarez, director of licensing at NUTech Ventures; Will Thomas, professor of history; Harkamal Walia, associate professor of agronomy and horticulture; Karrie Weber, associate professor of biological sciences and Earth and atmospheric sciences; Jeanne Wicks, director of sponsored programs; and Sanjay Antony-Babu, post-doctoral research associate, biological sciences.
