In accordance with a recent U.S. district court ruling, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has put on hold the implementation of new federal regulations that would change the salary threshold for overtime eligibility.
Led by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Fair Labor Standards Act would have generally expanded overtime eligibility to current salaried employees who make $47,476 annually and are not exempt from overtime regulations. The revision, which was scheduled for a Dec. 1 rollout, would have required employers to pay overtime or offer compensatory time to qualified employees.
On Nov. 22, a federal district court judge in Texas issued a preliminary injunction blocking the U.S. Department of Labor from implementing and enforcing the new labor standards. The injunction remains in effect through any legal challenges that may result.
All institutions in the University of Nebraska system are temporarily placing on hold all payroll changes for employees affected by the labor regulation until the legal challenge is resolved. Letters about this change were sent to affected employees on Nov. 30.
