The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host a farewell reception for Josh Davis, vice chancellor and chief of staff for the chancellor. The event will be 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at Lied Commons. The reception is free and open to the public.

Davis has been named senior vice provost and chief of staff at Penn State, effective Jan. 5. In his new role, he will provide leadership across a range of academic and administrative units, serve as a strategic partner and adviser to the provost, and represent the university in national forums, contributing thought leadership on higher education strategy and policy.

At Nebraska, Davis has served for nearly 14 years, most recently on the chancellor’s executive leadership team.

“Josh has demonstrated exemplary service to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for more than a decade and has been an integral part of the Executive Leadership Team and my office staff,” Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett said. “We wish him well as he carries his commitment to elevating institutional excellence and student success to Penn State.”

Davis previously worked as UNL’s associate vice chancellor for global affairs and senior international officer.  In that role, he led efforts to establish the university’s first global strategy, expanded access to international learning experiences and created a new Global Education Center. He was previously assistant vice chancellor for global engagement in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and assistant vice president for global strategy and international initiatives for the University of Nebraska system.

“Over the last 14 years, I have been fortunate to call Nebraska home and to work alongside so many talented and dedicated members of the faculty and staff,” Davis said. “I believe deeply in higher education’s mission to transform lives through education, research, and engagement and am honored to have had the chance to contribute to the important work of this amazing institution.”

Plans to replace Davis’ role will be announced.
