The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design has announced the winners of the Biennial Student Juried Exhibition.
Each winner receives a cash prize and will be honored at a free public reception, 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street and East Campus Loop.
The recipients are:
Best of Show ($500), Alison Cloet, Sutton, junior, “Stepped Gable Dress.”
Award of Distinction ($300), Agustin Torres, Grand Island, senior, “Graphic Heart Print.”
Award of Distinction ($300), Sarah Woodman, Nebraska City, senior, “Scarlett and Cream.”
Honorable Mention ($200), Samirah Alotaibi, Taif, Saudi Arabia, graduate student, “You Are What You Wear.”
Honorable Mention ($200), Olivia Steen, Minden, senior, “Feeling Trapped.”
The exhibition is on display at the Hillestad Gallery through May 5. The work was submitted by undergraduate and graduate students in Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design and was reviewed by an outside jury. Jurors were Allie Luedtke, co-owner of Crafthouse Modern Fabric and Yarn and 2006 Nebraska alumna; and Megan Ehrke, owner of Select Style boutique.
Work featured in the exhibition includes projects produced as coursework in Color Studio: Theory and Practice; Visualization Studio; Flat Pattern; Product Development III: Fashion Analysis and Presentation; Draping; Advanced Design for Printed Textiles; and Experimental Design.
