UNLPD is seeking feedback about its activities from the campus community. Information provided will be used for the department's accreditation process.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Police Department has launched a portal to gather public feedback for its accreditation process.

The online portal is available to gather comments on the department’s compliance with standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. It also gauges UNLPD’s engagement with the campus community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for continued accreditation.

The department, first accredited by CALEA in 2015, voluntarily participates with the commission as part of a regular checks and balances system. The process, coupled with gathering and providing crime statistics, helps the department follow best practices in law enforcement and maintain the highest level of service to the campus community.

Service members from CALEA asses how the department complies with commission standards on an annual basis via an off-site review of the department’s accreditation files. Details about standards being assessed are available on the CALEA website (listed under LE1 or Tier 1).

This online portal is the first step in an important piece of the CALEA accreditation. That process, which, in addition to the annual file reviews, will include an on-site campus assessment review and public forums in 2025. Details will be announced.

The public is encouraged to use the portal to provide its feedback at any time. The information received from the portal will be used in CALEA’s assessment of the department in both the annual and four-year on-site reviews.
