The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has completed its latest hazard mitigation plan and is seeking the campus community’s input.
Public input is a requirement and is the final step before the plan receives approval from the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency. The plan is available for review online through Sept. 12.
The plan covers a wide range of natural and human caused disasters, including flooding, chemical spills storms and animal disease. The mitigation plan is developed by a committee of university leadership. The process identifies possible hazards and offers members of the university community a chance to provide insights into vulnerabilities, completed projects which have increased campus resilience, and future opportunities to reduce risk.
The draft plan is available online. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to review the plan over the next month. Comments and any questions about the plan and process can be submitted to Abby Schletzbaum, emergency management director, at aschletzbaum2@unl.edu.
