The Class of 2023 is one for the record books.
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s May graduates set new marks for the number of graduates and degrees earned, far surpassing the previous records. As Chancellor Ronnie Green noted in his keynote addresses, it was the fourth record-setting class in the past six years.
Here’s a look at the most-recent grads, by the numbers:
- 3,664 — graduates (previous record was 3,522)
- 3,748 — degrees earned (previous record was 3,611)
- 118 — Juris Doctor degrees earned
- 601 — other graduate and professional degrees earned
- 3,029 — baccalaureate degrees earned (a record)
- 912 — graduates who earned distinction (a record)
- 94 — Chancellor’s Scholars, denoting a 4.0 grade-point average on all collegiate work (a record)
- 263 — graduates from the University Honors Program (a record)
- 2,300-plus — graduates with “Bachelor of Science” in their degree name
- 123 — graduates with the most-common middle name, Marie
- 45 — approximate number of volunteers who helped with commencement (Thanks, folks.)
- 43 — population of Deweese (smallest incorporated Nebraska community represented; hometown of two graduates)
- 32.9 million — population of Delhi, India (largest city represented; hometown of Yashaswi Mehra, Bachelor of Science)
- 59 — countries represented
- 47 — states represented (plus the District of Columbia and Guam)
- 240-plus — Nebraska communities represented
