Nine-Mile Prairie | Craig Chandler, University Communications

The 26th annual fall seminar series offered by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Center for Grassland Studies will include 13 presentations on topics related to climate change and grassland ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, collaborative adaptive rangeland management, pollinators in public and private spaces, and seeded perennial grasslands.

Seminars will take place on Mondays during the fall semester from 3 to 4 p.m. in Keim Hall, room 150. Each presentation will be streamed live to the public via Zoom. The first lecture is Aug. 30 and features Dave Wedin, professor of natural resources, discussing “Nebraska’s Grasslands and Global Change: Key Questions for the Next Decade. Students may register to take the series for academic credit. The seminars are free and open to the public.

On Oct. 11, the series features M. Francesca Cotrufo, this year’s Frank and Margaret Leu Distinguished Lecture. Cotrufo is associate head of soil and crop sciences and senior scientist at Colorado State University’s Natural Resource Ecology Lab. Cotrufo’s presentation is titled “Advancing Understanding of Soil Organic Matter to Address XXI Century Wicked Challenges.”

Seminar lectures are also recorded and available for viewing for those who were unable to attend a particular session. The seminar schedule, as well as past episodes, are available online.
