Editor’s Note — This is part of a Women’s History Month series featuring women who make a positive impact on the campus community through their work as office/service employees. The Women of Service series is organized by the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women. Stories will run in Nebraska Today through March 30.
Nebraska’s Tiffany Groteluschen is the “glue” that connects students, faculty and staff, creating community in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Groteluschen is an administrative associate in the dean’s office and handles a variety of responsibilities — including course scheduling, scholarship administration and directing building maintenance. She has held the position for two-and-a-half years, having previously worked at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Children’s Center.
Adam Wagler, associate dean of academic programs, credits Groteluschen for stepping into a leadership role in the college. He said she went above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic, making sure that classrooms and communal areas offered necessary space for safe learning and discussion.
“Tiffany is quiet and her work tends to go unnoticed,” Wagler said. “But those who observe the operations of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications closely will quickly realize Tiffany is the glue that holds our community together.”
Groteluschen organized a group of faculty and staff to develop a new policy that supports student workers. The policy, which was approved by college faculty, addresses how student workers are recruited, evaluated, compensated and offered professional development.
“Our students, staff and faculty are lucky to have Tiffany on our team,” Wagler said. “She helps motivates those around her with her positive energy and determination to make sure projects are completed on time.
“No matter if she is contributing to student success efforts by optimizing the course schedule or painting walls in our new Experience Lab, Tiffany is always willing to jump in and help with any task that needs to get done.”
The Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women reached out to get to know Groteluschen and learn more about her dedication to students, faculty and staff at Nebraska U. Her interview follows.
