History of Cornhusker Marching Band explored in Aug. 30 open house

Cadet Marching Band. University Archives

An open house from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in Love Library, Room 218, will explore the history of Nebraska’s Cornhusker Marching Band. The organization is celebrating a 140-year milestone this year.

As a partnership with the Archives and Special Collections department of University Libraries, the open house will unveil a new website dedicated to marching band history. The site will include 60 videos, some dated as early as the 1920’s.

The videos were digitized by alumnus Gary Steffens, the Band Alumni Association, and University Libraries.

Beginning at 3:45 p.m., Cornhusker Marching Band director Tony Falcone and band alumna and website developer Jessica Dussault will give brief remarks.

Attendees will have the chance to explore the website with laptops and mobile screens. Photographs, bowl game memorabilia, scrapbooks, drill charts and more will also be displayed.

The event is free and open to the campus community.
