Williams, who participated in three events as part of the university's MLK Week observance, discussed "Leadership for the Future — Carrying Forward the Dream" in the keynote. The lecture connected the legacies of King and Thurgood Marshall to contemporary challenges in equity and access.

As part of the keynote, Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett presented the university's Fulfilling the Dream award to Williams (photo, at right). Established in 1997, the award honors individuals who have contributed to the university community or greater Lincoln community through exemplary action in promoting the goals and vision of King.

During his campus visit, Williams also took part in a meet and greet at Sheldon Museum of Art and led a second lecture, “Intersection of MLK and Thurgood Marshall — A Legal Perspective,” in the College of Law.
