Human Resources begins Project 921 to replace PeopleAdmin

New system to streamline HR services across NU system
A new University of Nebraska partnership will allow Nebraskans to earn Google Career Certificates in a variety of fields crucial to the state’s workforce growth and competitiveness, including cybersecurity, IT, data analytics and business intelligence.

The University of Nebraska Office of Human Resources is replacing PeopleAdmin with SAP SuccessFactors, an integrated system for employee recruitment, onboarding and performance/goals management business processes. The initiative, called Project 921, involves all campuses in the University of Nebraska and Nebraska State College systems.

Currently, six independent PeopleAdmin systems support employee recruitment across the higher education systems. Performance management tools utilized by departments and/or campuses differ greatly across the University of Nebraska and Nebraska State College systems. Likewise, many different processes are used to onboard new employees and the related business transactions are inefficient and costly.

Project goal

Project 921 will bring integration to the disparate systems through a modern application suite called SuccessFactors that can be used by all campuses and interfaces with the SAP system. The goal is to launch a solution that offers long-term value to all campuses. The core goals include:

Increased collaboration across campuses by being able to work in the same application;

Modern integration with existing technology to improve flexibility and streamline procedures; and

Enhanced functionality with new, upgraded features to improve the business processes for internal and external recruitment, onboarding, and performance / goals management.

Benefits

Project 921 will deliver capabilities such as enhanced applicant screening and tracking, electronic forms for pre-boarding and onboarding, and online goal management and performance review/feedback processes. Additionally, it will offer uniform application of policies and procedures for greater compliance in human resources services.

Collaboration

Human resources leaders have enlisted the time and talents of multi-campus experts to serve on the project team. The team members, using business process knowledge and experience, collaborate with implementation partners to define tasks, evaluate system requirements, and make decisions for the improvement of future operations.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to embrace the use of today’s technology and the collaborative commitment from across all campuses to attract and attain top talent”, according to Sheryl Gartner, project manager.

Ultimately, the team is working to ensure that the update will address the current needs of the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska State College systems, and establishes a solid foundation for continuous future improvement.

Next steps

The first phase of Project 921 will deliver recruiting and onboarding functionality in the first quarter of 2025. The second phase will roll-out performance and goals management for availability in the second quarter of 2025.

The project team includes a comprehensive change management and communications team to ensure the timely delivery of detailed project information through multiple channels such as a project website, articles in regular bulletins, and presentations for real-time engagement.
