Drawing upon the commonly recognized “Husker Power” cheer, the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office and Student Affairs collaboratively developed Husker Student POWER, a framework designed to highlight five priority areas to help first-year scholars succeed. The five POWER areas are:
Purpose: Find, deepen and achieve your purpose for pursuing higher education. Ownership: Support the diversity of your experience and ownership of your story and educational journey. Well-being: Support your wellness in all facets – academic, social, emotional and physical. Engagement: Engage in experiences (research, leadership, education abroad, etc.) that prepare you to excel in a global society. Relationships: Build caring relationships with peers, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.
Learn how Husker Student POWER has been implemented by several units, including Housing, New Student Enrollment, the Center for Academic Success and Transition and Student Involvement, from noon to 1 p.m. April 19. The presentation will also provide data from the Husker Student POWER survey — distributed to all first-year and new transfer students during the fourth week of the fall and spring semesters — to illuminate these scholars’ top concerns and to discuss ways that faculty and staff can use this data to address and eliminate barriers to their success.
