Hyde Lecture to feature Project H founder

Emily Pilloton

Emily Pilloton

Emily Pilloton, founder and executive director of Project H Design, will deliver the next Hyde Lecture at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 in Richards Hall, Room 15.

The talk, “If You Build It,” will explore how design and building can transform lives and communities. Pilloton will share stories, projects and lessons from the nine-year history of Project H Design. Using architecture and design as an area of focus, Pilloton will challenge new designers to be creative leaders and builders of the future.

Through Project H Design, Pilloton works with youth ages 9 to 18 to develop public architecture projects. Some of those notable projects include building a farmers’ market with high school students, a playhouse with and for the daughters of abused mothers, a school library constructed by middle school students, and tiny homes for a transitional housing agency.

Pilloton earned a Bachelor of Arts in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Fine Arts in designed objects from the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently a lecturer in the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley. Her work is documented in the full-length film “If You Build It.”

Her Nov. 11 talk is free and open to the public.
