The Association for Women in Science will host a workshop on recognizing and responding to implicit bias from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Nebraska Union, Platte River Room.
The workshop will be led by Leo Taylor, program director in the Office of Equity and Inclusion at Ohio State University. Taylor is passionate about equity and inclusion in academia, particularly issues facing women and LGBTQ individuals, people living with HIV and those struggling with the stigma associated with mental illness.
Taylor’s work with the transgender community includes founding and facilitating several peer‐led support groups, serving as an adviser to the Cornell administration in their efforts to improve the experience of transgender students and contributing to the development of the transgender health care program at the Cornell Health Center. He also founded and facilitates a mental health support group for graduate students in Columbus, which he established in 2018.
The Sept. 12 event is open to faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. Contact awis@unl.edu for more information or learn more about AWIS here.
