Students explore opportunities abroad during International Education Week.

From Nov. 18 to Nov. 22, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will celebrate International Education Week across campus.

Part of a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Education, International Education Week gives students a chance to experience new cultures and celebrate the benefits of international education.

“Nebraska is excited to again participate in International Education Week,” said Josh Davis, associate vice chancellor for global affairs. “The richness of our international community and our world-class education make UNL a great place to prepare students to become global citizens.”

The weeklong celebration, coordinated by the Office of Global Strategies, kicks off on Nov. 18 with a Global Tea Party hosted by the International Student and Scholar Office, Student Involvement and the Kawasaki Reading Room. All students are invited to visit the Kawasaki Reading Room’s office to sample teas from around the world.

On Nov. 19, the International Student and Scholar Office will host the Global Huskers Festival, a multicultural festival that will include food, art, cultural décor, live performances and an international fashion show. Adapted from the Culture Shock and International Food Bazaar past events, 18 international student groups and individuals will have booths at the event to share more about their culture. The festival is hosted in partnership with Nebraska Athletics, Student Involvement and University Housing.

Other events throughout the week range from the International Opportunities Information Sessions and Passport Booth organized by the College of Education and Human Sciences, to multiple language tables and international film showings. International students and scholars at UNL will also be recognized with a flag display in the green space behind the Union Plaza.

The College of Business will host several events as well. Global Café and Connections, on Nov. 20, will feature local restaurant entrepreneurs and encourage students, staff and faculty to come together and experience a taste of the world while sharing stories of success in a new culture. Those interested in attending are asked to submit an RSVP.

Other supporters of International Education Week include the International Business Club, Fellowships Office, International Quilt Museum, IANR Global Engagement, Nebraska Passport Office, Fulbright Student Association, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Counseling and Psychological Services, Chancellor’s Office, German Club, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, and University Communications.
