The films “Jackie” and “Things to Come” open Jan. 6 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The theater on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s City Campus is closed Dec. 23 to Jan. 5.

Featuring Natalie Portman in the lead roll, “Jackie” is an intimate portrait of First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in the days immediately following the assassination of her husband, Pres. John F. Kennedy. The film is a psychological portrait of the Jackie as she struggles to maintain her husbands legacy and the world of “Camelot” that they created.

“Jackie” is rated R for brief strong violence and some language. Directed by Pablo Larrain, the film shows at the Ross through Jan. 26.

“Things to Come” follows Nathalie, a philosophy professor (played by Isabelle Huppert), who runs headlong into a midlife crisis after being squeezed between caring for her deteriorating mother and learning that her husband wants to end their marriage.

As the pillars of her life begin to crumble, Nathalie finds herself adrift but revels in a newfound sense of liberation. With nothing to hold her back, Nathalie sets out to define this new phase of her life and to rediscover herself.

“Things to Come,” directed by Mia Hansen-Løve, won the Best Director award at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival. The film, rated PG-13 for brief language and drug use, plays through Jan. 12.
