The Lied Center for Performing Arts will kick off the new year with an exhilarating Broadway musical, eclectic roots performance and trio of quirky blue men.

January’s shows:
- “Bandstand,” Jan. 17, 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 18, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 19, 2 p.m. — From three-time Tony winner and “Hamilton” choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler comes this inspiring new musical full of infectious big-band music and high-octane, heart-pounding dancing. It’s 1945, and six soldiers return from war to a changed nation. When NBC announces a competition to find the country’s next great musical superstars, they form a band unlike any the nation has ever seen. Along the way, they discover the power of music to face the impossible, find their voice and finally feel like they have a place to call home.
Martha Redbone Presents “Bone Hill: The Concert,” Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m., Kimball Hall — One of today’s most vital voices in American roots music, renowned blues and soul singer Martha Redbone explores her Appalachian family’s history in an epic that spans generations and genres. The music ranges from traditional Cherokee chants and lullabies to bluegrass, blues, gospel, jazz, R&B and funk.
Blue Man Group, Jan. 29-31, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 1, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 2, 2 p.m. — More than 35 million people worldwide have experienced the surprising and exciting show that is Blue Man Group. The bald and blue trio’s tour features original music, custom-made instruments, surprise audience interaction, and colorful moments of creativity and hilarious absurdity.
