“Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House,” starring Liam Neeson, and “Unknown Girl” open at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Oct. 27.

“Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House” is based on the true story of the most famous anonymous man in American history, Mark Felt, the FBI second-in-command who was the “Deep Throat” whistleblower in the 1970s Watergate scandal.

The identity of the secret informant remained a source of intense public curiosity and speculation for more than 30 years, until Felt revealed himself through an article in Vanity Fair in 2005.

While his name has been public for a decade, few know about the personal and professional life of the brilliant and uncompromising Felt, who risked and ultimately sacrificed everything to bring what he knew to light.

The film is written and directed by Peter Landesman and headed by Liam Neeson and Diane Lane. “Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House” reveals Watergate as the public has never seen it before.

“The Unknown Girl,” directed by the Dardenne brothers, is a searing saga of guilt and redemption.

One evening after work hours, Jenny, a young doctor, allows the door buzzer at the small clinic where she works to go unanswered. It’s only later that she learns that the person ringing was an unidentified African woman found dead shortly after by the side of a road.

Consumed by the thought that she is to blame, Jenny embarks on an obsessive crusade to discover who the anonymous woman was and to see to it that she is not forgotten.

“The Unknown Girl” is both a gripping mystery and a profoundly human moral tale.
