A retirement reception for Pat McBride, director of Nebraska’s New Student Enrollment program, will be 3 to 5 p.m. March 26 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center.
McBride earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Benedictine College and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He served as assistant dean of students at Benedictine before beginning his career at Nebraska in 1988.
As director of New Student Enrollment, McBride has served as a key connector between thousands of new students and their transition to college life at Nebraska.
Over the years, McBride’s focus has been engaging international and and out-of-state students. He has created special programming and activities as a part of this mission, seeking to help those new to the state assimilate into the Nebraska community.
Throughout his career, McBride has earned several awards for his work with students. These include:
- Chancellor’s Exemplary Service to Students Award, 2000
- Gamma Gamma Honorary Award for Outstanding Service to the Greek Community at UNL, 2001
- National Orientation Directors Association Outstanding Orientation Professional, 2008
- University of Nebraska Board of Regents commendation for Meritorious Service and Dedication, 2014
- Kansas Monk Award from Benedictine College, 2017
“As I wind down my career, I contemplate how blessed I have been to work with some of the best students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln,” McBride said. “I could not be more proud of the work and accomplishments of my New Student Enrollment team over these past 31 years. I would especially like to thank my current staff for all they have done this past year.”
