The Lied Center for Performing Arts and the University of Nebraska State Museum-Morrill Hall are bringing a unique program to campus that fuses music, visual art and an exploration of the diversity and biology of moths.
The Moth Project will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Nebraska Union's Swanson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved here.
The Moth Project is a new production from Peter Kiesewalter, Grammy-nominated and Emmy-winning creator of the East Village Opera Company. The program features a wide range of music — including songs by Johann Sebastian Bach, Joni Mitchell and KISS, as well as original songs — reflecting the incredible diversity of moth species. The show explores common themes between humans and moths — migration, seduction, death, transformation and hope.
“As a scientist who studies moths, I am excited to partner with the Lied Center to bring this avant garde production to Lincoln,” said Susan Weller, director of the museum. “Sharing their beauty and biology with others is what started me down the road to becoming a museum director.”
The Moth Project combines art and science in original and unexpected ways. Integrating live music, video, storytelling and science, the 75-minute show aims to instill a sense of wonder, appreciation, connection and curiosity about the natural world.
The Moth Project is sponsored by Priscilla Grew, director emeritus of the NU State Museum and patron of the Lied Center.
