Mueller Planetarium sets winter fulldome schedule

"Firefall"

Mueller Planetarium’s winter schedule will feature two new fulldome shows — one an examination of comet and asteroid impacts on Earth, the other an exploration of the deep sea.

The schedule, which starts Dec. 5 and continues through Jan. 30, is “Into the Deep,” 7 p.m. Thursday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and “Firefall,” 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Firefall” explores the history of comets and asteroids shaping Earth’s surface. The production examines how the terrifying and majestic invaders from space are capable of both destruction and delivery of organic materials necessary for life. Following each screening, planetarium staff will provide updates on the current night sky.

“Into the Deep” ventures to the lowest point of the Mariana Trench in the South Pacific. The show includes face-to-face interactions with rarely seen marine organisms like the bioluminescent frogfish. “Into the Deep” also navigates the evolution of deep-sea diving vessels used to explore the ocean environment.

The schedule is subject to change. For more information about fulldome shows, go to the planetarium’s website or call 402-472-2641.

Mueller Planetarium is part of the University of Nebraska State Museum of Natural History in Morrill Hall. Parking is free in front of the museum. Planetarium tickets include museum admission and can be purchased at the museum’s front desk the day of the show. Admission is $9 for adults (19 and older), $5.50 for children, and $3 for UNL staff, faculty, and students with valid NU ID.
