National Quilting Day celebration is March 21

Roderick Kiracofe will present “Unconventional and Unexpected” at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. March 21 at the International Quilt Museum as part of the National Quilting Day celebration. The exhibition "The Collector's Eye: Roderick Kiracofe" is currently on view at the museum.

The International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host a National Quilting Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 at the museum, 1523 N. 33rd St.

The free public event will feature exhibitions, presentations, industry vendors and activities for all ages.

Presentations include:

  • Sara Kenny — “Quilts of Valor” (9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.)
  • Susie Bonder — “Not My Momma’s Quilts” (10:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.)
  • Roderick Kiracofe — “Unconventional and Unexpected” (11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.)

The celebration will include a special display from Quilts of Valor. Visitors also can observe real-time care of the museum’s collection in the Byron and Sara Rhodes Dillow Conservation Work Room.

Free parking is available north of the museum and outside Hardin Hall. Lunch is available for purchase (cash only) for those who want to spend the day at the museum.

Event sponsors include the Lincoln Quilters Guild, Lincoln Modern Quilt Guild, Nebraska State Quilt Guild, Omaha Modern Quilt Guild, AccuQuilt, Aurifil, Cosmic Cow, Fabric Bash, Lincoln Sewing Center and Nebraska Quilt Company.
