It’s official: As the calendar turns to July, the Nebraska N has taken flight at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Announced in December, the Nebraska N replaces icons used by academic units, Nebraska Athletics and the Nebraska Alumni Association. The new campus icon is an optimized version of the Huskers’ N, reconfigured to align within a square matrix of a digital pixel grid.
Marcelo Plioplis, creative director with University Communications, updated the icon in collaboration with Nebraska Athletics, the Nebraska Alumni Association and UNL’s Brand Council.
Full adoption of the Nebraska N will occur in phases over an extended period of time. On June 27, key campus visual elements, such as campus pole banners carrying the so-called Academic N, began to be replaced with the new icon.
“The unified N icon enhances and unifies the university’s brand as UNL engages with a range of audiences in pursuit of its goals,” said Andy Schadwinkel, interim director of University Communications.
The Office of Admissions, which began fall recruitment campaigns in May, was the first unit to complete a transition to the new icon. The university’s website made the switch May 8.
University Communications has made the Nebraska N available in the Nebraska Toolbox and Brand Book and the Lockup Factory.
Departments and units began using the Nebraska N in all projects, including social media, as scheduled July 1. Some campus signage and items with the old Academic N will be replaced as budgets allow.
