The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will celebrate and showcase research, scholarly and creative activity during Nebraska Research Days, Nov. 6-10, at locations across campus.
A mix of in-person and virtual events will be offered and are open to faculty, staff and students. Research Days activities are hosted by the Office of Research and Economic Development in cooperation with university partners. The schedule of events and registration pages are posted on the Research Days website. Participants are encouraged to use the #ResearchDays hashtag on social media posts. Nov. 6
Innovator Celebration, 4-6 p.m., Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center. This annual awards ceremony honors Nebraska researchers who are developing and commercializing cutting-edge technology. Sherri Jones, interim vice chancellor for research and economic development, will give remarks. The event is hosted by NUtech Ventures, the university’s technology commercialization affiliate. Registration is required.
Nov. 7
Book talk, featuring artist Dana Fritz, 11 a.m. to noon, The Mill at Nebraska Innovation Campus. Dana Fritz, Hixson-Lied Professor in the School of Art, Art History and Design, will discuss her new book, “Field Guide to a Hybrid Landscape,” an exploration of the Sandhills’ unique ecosystem. It features some of the last images of the Nebraska National Forest near Halsey before the 2022 Bovee wildfires. Registration is encouraged but not required. “Field Guide” was published in January by the University of Nebraska Press. Copies will be available for purchase during the event.

Second Annual Celebration of Open Research at Nebraska (City Campus), 8:30-10 a.m., Love Library, second floor.
The Nebraska research community is invited to an open house hosted by University Libraries to celebrate UNL’s successes in open research, and to connect with colleagues and champions of these efforts. Open research practices increase access to Nebraska researchers’ world- and community-changing research; support verifiability of knowledge; and aid in increasing public trust in science, scholarship and higher education. Registration is encouraged but not required. A second session of this event is scheduled for Nov. 9 on East Campus; details are listed below.
Navigating Careers in Intellectual Property: A Conversation with Molly Kocialski and A. Christal Sheppard, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Nebraska Union, Regency Suite. Kocialski, regional director of the Rocky Mountain U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and Sheppard, Nebraska College of Law lecturer, will discuss careers in intellectual property. Sheppard was director of the first USPTO office located outside Washington, D.C. Cheryl Horst, intellectual property counsel and associate director of NUtech Ventures, will moderate the discussion. Lunch will be served for in-person attendees; Zoom is also an attendance option. Registration is required.
Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam, 4-6 p.m., Wick Alumni Center. Scholars from a range of disciplines will present their work in an interactive, engaging manner. Slam attendees will vote on the best presenter, who will receive a $1,000 prize for their research and creative endeavors.

- Gwendŵr Meredith, assistant professor, School of Natural Resources.
- Ciara Ousley, assistant professor, special education and communication disorders.
- Ryan Tan, assistant professor, sports media and communication.
- Ruth Woiwode, assistant professor, animal science.
Registration is required. The Slam is this month’s ORED Faculty Connector event, an opportunity for Nebraska faculty to network and socialize in a casual setting.

Celebration of Open Research at Nebraska (East Campus), 8:30-10 a.m., Dinsdale Family Learning Commons, Learning Stairs. University Libraries is hosting a second open house event for colleagues to connect and celebrate open research. Registration is encouraged but not required.
The Nebraska Lectures: The Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series, 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom. Shannon Bartelt-Hunt, Donald R. Voelte Jr. and Nancy A. Keegan Chair of Engineering and professor of civil and environmental engineering, will present “Our Water, Our Health,” focused on the connections between water and environmental and human health. Following the lecture, Jones will moderate a live Q&A session with Bartelt-Hunt. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Faculty Recognition Celebration, 9-10 a.m., Nebraska East Union, Great Plains Room. Research Days wraps up with a celebration of notable research accomplishments in 2023. Jones will give remarks and lead a roundtable discussion with Grand Challenges teams that received funding during the first Catalyst Competition. Teams will share success stories and how their projects have evolved. Registration is required, and refreshments will be served.
