Since 2013, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has participated in a Veterans Day event, National Roll Call, to honor service men and women from the state of Nebraska who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States.
The National Roll Call will be held at 12:45 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Platte River Room of the Nebraska Union.
The program will begin with the presentation of colors by the ROTC Joint Color Guard, national anthem and opening remarks. At 1 p.m. there will be a moment of silence in remembrance.
After the moment of silence, the Military and Veteran Success Center coordinates students, staff, faculty, members of ROTC, the Nebraska National Guard and the veteran community to be readers of the names of those killed in action from World War I until the present-day conflict in 10-minute blocks.
The National Roll Call will take about 4.5 hours to read the nearly 5,000 names of those killed in action who called Nebraska home. There will be a short closing ceremony to end the National Roll Call.
