Gertrude “Trudy” Lill Burge died Aug. 21. She had lived with several chronic illnesses and was a cancer survivor.
Burge retired from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2018 as a professor of practice in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Burge grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and Boulder, Colorado. She had lived in Lincoln since 1983. Burge held degrees from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Burge and her husband were married at Saint Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church in Ottawa Hills, Ohio. They met in undergraduate school while whitewater rafting on the Green River in Utah and by graduation had rafted most of the western whitewater rivers. Many more wonderful adventures followed. One of her greatest joys was her son, Toby.
Burge is survived by husband, Don; son, Tobias Burge (Jenn Tran), San Jose, California; sister Joanna Berg (Ron), Winchester, Virginia; sister Beverly Beeman, Pasadena, Maryland; sister Mary Allen Swartz, Erie, Colorado; and lifelong friend Cheryl Cruickshank, Boulder, Colorado. She was preceded in death by sisters Genevieve Roberts and Emily Nelson.
Funeral services are pending. Burial will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
