The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host a free open house, 12:30-3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the East Campus Union.
The open house is open to the public. Registration is required by July 25. Designed for individuals 50 years old and older, the institute’s noncredit courses, events and travel opportunities aim to provide lifelong learning and enrichment.
OLLI at UNL, a membership-based program, caters to older adults seeking intellectual stimulation, social interaction and learning. For over 30 years, OLLI has offered noncredit courses with no tests, grades or homework, focusing purely on the joy of learning. Courses are available in-person, live on Zoom, and as recordings to view at a convenient time. The institute also offers travel opportunities for members and non-members alike.
Staff and volunteers will be available at the open house to answer questions about courses, interest groups, events, travel and membership. Attendees can register for membership and pick up a fall first term catalog at the event.
OLLI offers year-round programming divided into five six-week terms: two in the fall, one in winter, one in the spring, and one in the summer. Courses typically meet once a week, ranging from one session to six sessions per term. Annual membership is $75, with course fees based on the number of sessions, from $10 for a one-time class to $35 for a six-week course.
Travel opportunities, arranged by OLLI’s travel vendor, Star Destinations, include educational trips locally, domestically, and internationally. Planned trips include New York City in December 2024, a Rhine River cruise in April 2025, a June 2025 trip to Philadelphia for America’s 250th anniversary, an August 2025 tour of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and a September 2025 getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains.
