OLLI holding Omaha, Lincoln events for adults over 50

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, also known as OLLI at UNL, will host the Omaha Showcase July 28 and the Lincoln Open House Aug. 8.

Both events are free and open to the public. Registration is required by July 21. The institute’s noncredit courses, events, and travel opportunities provide lifelong learning and enrichment for adults 50 years and up. People are encouraged to pick one event to attend.

Staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions about membership, courses, interest groups, events and travel. Attendees can register for membership and pick up a fall term catalog at the event. At the Omaha event, attendees will be able sample a couple of OLLI classes.

The OLLI Omaha Showcase will be 12:30-3:30 p.m. July 28 at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St. in Omaha. Sample classes are at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The Lincoln Open House will be 12:30-3:30 p.m. Aug. 8 in East Campus Union, 1705 Arbor Dr. in Lincoln. Visitors can come anytime during the scheduled period.

For over 30 years, OLLI has offered noncredit courses with no tests, no grades and no homework, focusing purely on the joy of learning. Courses are available in person, live on Zoom, and recorded to view anytime online from anywhere. Classes and events are available in Omaha and Lincoln. Travel opportunities are available to members and non-members alike.

OLLI offers year-round programming divided into five six-week terms: two in the fall, one in the winter, one in the spring, and one in the summer. Courses typically meet once a week, ranging from one session to six sessions per term. Annual membership is $75, with course fees based on the number of sessions, from $10 for a one-time class to $35 for a six-week course.

Travel opportunities, arranged by OLLI’s travel vendor Star Destinations, include educational trips locally, domestically, and internationally. Upcoming trips include “Visions of Nebraska,” a tour of eastern Nebraska in the fall of 2025; Costa Rica in March of 2026; England and Wales in August of 2026; a New England coastline cruise in October of 2026; and the Southwest also in October of 2026.

OLLI at UNL is part of a national network of 124 lifelong learning institutes at colleges and universities connected through the Bernard Osher Foundation and is supported by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Education and Human Sciences.
