The public is invited to explore the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s student hydroponic prototype and demonstration systems from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 2 and Dec. 4 in the Plant Science Teaching Greenhouse, 3855 Fair St.
There will be opportunities to visit with different student groups and learn about their uniquely developed hydroponic prototypes and specialty crops. See the diversity of approaches to growing plants, including fresh greens, fruits and edible flowers. Students will demonstrate various systems, including deep water, thin film, Bato bucket, raft, tower, gutter culture and more. The public is encouraged to listen and discuss as students share their innovative approaches and provide background on system designs.
Stacy Adams, professor of practice in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, has taught Plant and Landscape Systems 307: Hydroponics for Growing Populations for five years in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Adams said there will be a bonus experience at the open house to enjoy seasonal treats in the warmth of the cozy greenhouse.
This event is open to the public to peruse the different systems. Guests may enter through the north door with the sidewalk entrance to the Plant Science Teaching Greenhouse, across from the Animal Science Complex. Meter parking is available in the parking lot east of the greenhouse, across North 39th Street.
