PPC associate director Nancy Shank retiring

Nancy Shank

After 21 years with the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, Nancy Shank will be retiring at the end of May.

Shank helped found the center in 1998 and provided invaluable leadership in developing it into the thriving organization it is today. Most recently, she served as associate director.

“In addition to being a skilled researcher and administrator, Nancy has been instrumental in promoting the Public Policy Center’s engagement and impact throughout the state, region, and nation,” director Mario Scalora said.

During her time at the center, Shank worked on a variety of projects that have left a lasting impact on Nebraskans. Some of her areas of focus included community development, human services systems, information technology, natural resources management and organizational systems. She has been the principal investigator for research projects funded by federal agencies such as the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Health and Human Services and the National Science Foundation. Shank has provided senior leadership consultation for national organizations (including Red Cross and United Way), state agencies, and statewide and local not-for-profit and philanthropic organizations.

“For the past 9 years, Dr. Shank has provided the vision and leadership in the development and implementation of Lincoln Vital Signs and Prosper Lincoln,” said Barbara Bartle, president of the Lincoln Community Foundation. “Her expertise in research-based community development has not only impacted Lincoln, but has received accolades at the national level. Nancy’s body of work will influence Lincoln for many years.”
