Husker GROW, a program that focuses on student employment and volunteerism as a high impact practice, will host an information session for student supervisors and potential partners May 29.
The GROW (Guided Reflection on Work) program uses brief structured conversations between students and their supervisor or coach to help make learning from employment or leadership experiences more visible to students. Since implemented in 2016 at Nebraska, more than 5,000 students have been involved in the Husker GROW initiative. In 2019, 92 percent of student participants agreed or strongly agreed their student position helped them improve leadership skills, teamwork, communication skills, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and adaptability.
Staff and faculty interested in implementing the program for students in their department should attend the info session, noon to 1 p.m. May 29 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom.
Program organizers will review the benefits of Husker GROW, explain how the conversations work, discuss best practices for maximizing student learning, and provide potential and current supervisors/coaches with resources.
