Registration open for annual NU Africa Summit

Registration for the second annual University of Nebraska Africa Summit is now open.

Registration for the second annual University of Nebraska Africa Summit is now open.

The University of Nebraska’s second annual Africa Summit will provide a forum for a systemwide community of faculty, staff and students with expertise or interest in Africa.

The summit will be held March 28 at the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, on the corner of 42nd Street and Emile Street. Registration is open to any NU faculty, staff or student with an interest in the area. The summit keynote and panel discussions will be streamed live online.

The all-day event begins with a keynote address at 10 a.m. by Stephen Obaro, professor of pediatric infectious diseases and director of pediatric international research at UNMC. Two rounds of breakout sessions in the morning will cover various research topics presented by faculty from the four campuses, followed by a session of panels with a regional focus in the afternoon. The summit also includes a free boxed lunch for those who registered and will conclude around 2:45 p.m.

Goals for Africa Summit include enabling members of the NU community with expertise or interest in Africa to meet each other and identify potential projects for competitive funding and areas of collaboration. University administrators also hope the event will encourage faculty, staff and students to work together to enhance the university’s engagements with and in Africa.
